ADEMOLA Lookman is eager to play for the Super Eagles after his application to switch nationality was approved by FIFA.

Meanwhile, Amaju Pinnick believes the addition of the Leicester City forward will change the mentality of the squad positively.

The player himself expressed his delight at the switch, tweeting on Friday night: “Delighted to announce that FIFA has approved my Nationality switch. Thank you for the warm welcome and I can’t wait to put on the Super Eagles shirt and represent the country @NGSuperEagles.”

Lookman displayed his excitement by attaching a photoshopped image of himself in a Super Eagles shirt to the tweet.

Nigeria Football Federation President Pinnick was also very pleased that their application to have the Leicester City forward change of allegiance from England to Nigeria was successful.

FIFA’s approval of the request was announced on Thursday.

“I’m glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved by FIFA,” Pinnick wrote on Twitter.

The NFF chief is basing Lookman’s expected impact on the age-grade trophy the 24-year-old won with England five years ago.

“Lookman was part of England’s title win at the 2017 U-20 World Cup and brings a winning mentality to our team. I can’t wait to see him make our Super Eagles that more formidable.”

Lookman, born in London to Nigerian parents, played for England at U-19, U-20 and U-21 levels before deciding to switch allegiance to the West African country after an approach from the NFF.

He is eligible to play for the Super Eagles in their Qatar 2022 World Cup playoffs against Ghana’s Black Stars in March.
