FOR adults over the age of 80, those in nursing homes, and those getting at-home care, Sweden’s public health service advised a fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccination Today.
According to the CDC, the vaccine should be given four months after the prior dosage.
“The spread of Covid-19 is still intense in Sweden. An increasing number of cases have been reported in recent weeks, including among people at increased risk of severe illness,” the agency said.
“The immune system’s ability to react to the vaccination, and build up lasting protection, decreases with age,” it added.
“A booster strengthens that protection,” state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell said in a statement from the agency.
In Sweden, more than 85 percent of people over the age of 80, as well as 55 percent of those over the age of 18, have had a third dosage of the vaccination.
Despite an increase in Omicron infections, the Scandinavian country dropped all restrictions on February 9 and earned headlines early in the pandemic for not imposing lockdowns.
With around 16,500 deaths thus far, it has a little lower death toll than the European average, although it is significantly higher than neighboring Norway, Finland, and Denmark.
