TO close the inequality gap with their male counterparts, Nigerian women in the capital market have been advised to add more value and improve their contributions toward accomplishing organizational goals.
Some women in the capital market have stood out for a variety of reasons, including great leadership.
To this end, the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI) emphasized the importance of these women having a high level of self-confidence in order to demonstrate their abilities and get public acceptance.
CISI Assistant Director, Global Business Development, Helena Wilson, explained that gender equity contributes to economic growth and expands the stock of human capital, fostering diversity of thought, in a paper titled “Supporting Equity for the Next Generation: Women in the Nigeria Capital Market” presented at the CISI Nigeria Member Forum.

“We must move from equality to equity. Buy in at senior level, support mentoring, work in a hybrid place, ensure flexibility, reduce banter and recognise that we need to tackle these problems earlier in our careers.” said Wilson.
Nkoli Edoka, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Cowry Securities, echoed her sentiments, emphasizing the importance of women having self-confidence in order to compete with their male counterparts.
Edoka also pushed for equality in the types of work schedules assigned to women, taking into account a woman’s distinctiveness.
She claimed that if an enabling environment is built for women, they will be able to perform on par with males.
Florence Umoh, Executive Director of Teakwood Advisory Partners, recommended women to test themselves on values that could have a multiplier effect on company goals.
She emphasized the importance of personal growth for women in order for them to make positive changes in the workplace.
Dr. John Osuoha, CISI Country Representative in Nigeria, advised CISI members in Nigeria to take advantage of the chances that the qualifications bring and become change agents in their respective companies in his closing remarks.
