The Super Eagles will play a friendly match with Ecuador in June as part of the South Americans’ preparation for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
The Nigeria Football Federation announced on Friday it reached an agreement with the Ecuador federation for both countries to field their A teams for the friendly billed for New Jersey, United States of America on Thursday, 2 June.
The clash will take place at the 25,000-capacity Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, the home ground of Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.
The match is five days after the Super Eagles face Mexico in another friendly at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
While the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, both of their opponents in the summer are bound for Qatar.
Ecuador, ranked 46th in the world, will be up against African champions Senegal in Group A, hence the need to prepare with a tune-up match against a team from the continent. The other teams in the group are hosts Qatar and The Netherlands.
Mexico, who have faced the Super Eagles several times in recent years, are in Group C alongside Saudi Arabia, Poland and Argentina.
Mexico and Ecuador will also face each other in a friendly in Chicago on 5 June.
