Liverpool overcame Chelsea 6-5 on penalties this evening at the Wembley Stadium to win the FA Cup.
The match ended 0-0 at full-time and extra-time before going into a penalty shootout, where Liverpool missed one of their kicks, while Chelsea failed to convert two.
Konstatinos Tsimikas scored Liverpool’s winning penalty after Cesar Azpilicueta and Mason Mount missed for Chelsea.
Senegal forward Sadio Mane was the only Liverpool player that failed to score, his kick stopped by his compatriot Edouard Mendy in the Chelsea goal.
It is the second time this season that Liverpool would beat Chelsea in a major final, after the penalty shootout victory in the Carabao Cup final in February.
It is also the third consecutive FA Cup final defeat for Chelsea, following losses to Arsenal in 2020 and Leicester City in 2021.
The Blues have become the first side since Newcastle United (1974, 1998 and 1999) to lose on three consecutive FA Cup final appearances, and the first in history to lose in three back-to-back years.
Liverpool have now won the FA Cup eight times, with only Arsenal (14) and Manchester United (12) winning it more times.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has become only the second manager to win the European Cup/Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup and the English top-flight title all with the same English club, along with Sir Alex Ferguson (with Manchester United), according to Opta statistics.
