NIGERIAN sprinter Favour Ofili was once again the standout athlete at a collegiate competition in the United States of America, producing the best individual performances.

At the South Eastern Conference (SEC) Outdoor Championships in Oxford, Mississippi early this morning Nigerian time, Ofili won two individual gold medals and another one in the relays for her school, the Louisiana State University.

The 19-year-old sensation, who recently set a new women’s 200m Nigerian record of 21.96 seconds, claimed the 100m title this morning after helping her school to the 4x100m women’s gold in 42.59s.

Ofili equalled her personal best of 10.93s to beat her big rival Abby Steiner (11.02s) to second place. Jada Baylak was third in 11.04s.

One hour after the 100m feat, Ofili became the double sprint champion at the event, which is a rare accomplishment.

She returned a time of 22.04s in the women’s 200m final, again beating Steiner to second place (22.07s) in a tight race. Talitha Diggs finished a distant third in 22.64s.

Ofili’s compatriot Ruth Usoro also had an impressive weekend in the US, finishing 2nd in the women’s long jump at the Big 12 Championships in Lubbock, Texas.

Usoro leapt to a new personal best distance of 6.78m to finish behind her teammate Monae’ Nichols, who jumped a massive personal best and world lead of 6.97m.
