ROMELU Lukaku could be on his way back to Inter Milan just one year after joining Chelsea in a record deal.
The Belgium striker returned to Chelsea last season, costing the Londoners a club record £97.5m in transfer fee.
However, he has struggled to impress in the Premier League, scoring only eight goals in 26 appearances in the competition last season.
Reports in Italy today have now claimed that Lukaku has agreed to a loan return to Inter Milan, although a deal with Chelsea has not been reached.
According La Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku will earn €7.5m net annually in wages, which is much lower than the €12m plus €3m in add-ons he earns at Chelsea.
Inter must however reach an agreement with Chelsea before the end of June in order to take advantage of the benefits of the Growth Decree law, which would significantly reduce the cost of the operation.
Although Lukaku has spent several years in England, playing for Chelsea, West Brom, Everton and Manchester United, it was in Italy he played his best football.
The 29-year-old first joined Inter Milan from Manchester United for €75m in 2019 and scored 64 goals in 95 appearances across two seasons, helping them secure the Serie A title in 2020/2021.
