THE Flamingos have booked their ticket to the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup after a 0-0 draw with Ethiopia today in Abuja.

The Nigerian girls qualified 1-0 on aggregate for the tournament scheduled for India in October.

The Flamingos won the first leg 1-0 in Addis Ababa two weeks ago but the Ethiopians, who surprisingly eliminated South Africa in the earlier rounds, stood firm at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium this evening.

The Nigerians were in control for most of the encounter, creating several chances, but they could not break down the resolute Ethiopian defence.

Omowunmi Bello, Biola Mosaku and Miracle Usani all had opportunities to put the tie beyond doubt, but they were all undone by good Ethiopian goalkeeping or poor finishing.

The visitors also had chances of their own, especially on the counterattack, but Flamingos goalkeeper Faith Omilana was up to the task.

The Flamingos eased through to the tournament without losing any match or conceding a single goal throughout the qualifying campaign, while they scored 15 goals.

The draw for the 2022 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup will be held in Zurich, Switzerland on June 24, with 16 teams to be placed in four groups.

The tournament is scheduled for October 11 to October 30 in three Indian cities: Bhubaneswar, Goa and Navi Mumbai.
