REAL Madrid have confirmed the signing of French midfielder Auerlien Tchouameni from Monaco.

The UEFA Champions League holders announced the deal today, which will keep the 22-year-old at the Santiago Bernabeu for six years.

“Real Madrid CF and AS Monaco have agreed on the transfer of the player Aurélien Tchouaméni, who will be linked to the club for the next six seasons,” Real Madrid said in an official statement today.

“Next Tuesday, June 14, at 12:00 at Real Madrid City, the presentation ceremony for Aurélien Tchouaméni as a new Real Madrid player will take place after the corresponding medical examination.

“Aurélien Tchouaméni will then appear before the media.”

The deal is believed to be worth €100m in total — €80m transfer fee and €20m in performance-related add-ons.

Tchouameni has become the second most expensive sale in Monaco’s history behind only Kylian Mbappé, who joined Paris Saint-Germain for €180m in August 2017.

The young midfielder was named Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year in 2020-21 after joining Monaco from Bordeaux for €16m, and he was also wanted by Liverpool and PSG before settling for the European champions.

Tchouameni is already a regular in the French senior squad and was in the starting line-up in last year’s UEFA Nations League final against Spain. He made 50 appearances for Monaco across all competitions in 2021-22, with five goals and three assists.
