THE Super Eagles arrived in Agadir, Morocco today for tomorrow’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Sao Tome and Principe.
The contingent, made up of Nigeria Football Federation officials, players and coaches, left Abuja around midnight on an Air Peace aircraft and landed in the North African country this morning after a direct seven-hour flight.
The qualifying Group A encounter is being played in Morocco because Sao Tome and Principe have no suitable grounds of their own and have adopted the North African country as their ‘home’ for the series.
According to the schedule of activities announced by the team’s media officer Femi Raji, the Super Eagles are due to hold a press conference this afternoon at the Adrar Stadium, Agadir.
They will then have their official training at the same Adrar Stadium where the match will be played.
The encounter was initially expected to be played in Marrakech, but it is now set for Agadir, which is about 260 kilometres away.
The Super Eagles are favourites to claim their second straight win of the qualifiers after their 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone on Thursday.
Sao Tome and Principe, ranked 183rd in the world to Nigeria’s 30th, are tipped to be the whipping boys of the group, and they already lost their opening game 5-1 to Guinea-Bissau on Thursday.
The Super Eagles are second in the group, behind Guinea-Bissau on goal difference, with Sierra Leone third and Sao Tome bottom.
The top two teams from the group will advance to the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire next summer.
