NBS records 199.5m active voice subscribers in Q1 2022

ACCORDING to a National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) Telecom Data report, the number of active subscribers for telecommunications providers operating in Nigeria increased during the past year, reaching 199.5 million.

The Bureau said that 199,558,540 active voice subscribers were totaled in the first quarter of the financial year 2022 in its Telecoms Data: Active Voice and Internet by State, Porting and Tariff Information report for Q1 2022. (Q1 2022).

Based on NBC’s report, this equates to an increase from the 192,413,613 that it recorded in Q1 of 2021. Also according to the research, voice subscriptions increased 3.71 percent year over year in the first quarter of 2022.

While the data revealed that growth was 2.09 percent from one quarter to the next.

The data also showed that in Q1 2022, there were 145,851,496 active internet subscribers, up from 144,949,194 in Q1 2021 which reflects an increase in active internet subscriptions of 0.62 percent over the previous year according to NBS.

According to state analysis, Lagos had the most active voice customers in Q1 of 2022, with 24,226,878, followed by Kano and Ogun, each with 11,666,630. According to the data, growth was 2.09 percent from one quarter to the next.

The data also showed that in Q1 2022, there were 145,851,496 active internet subscribers, up from 144,949,194 in Q1 2021.

According to NBS, this reflects an increase in active internet subscriptions of 0.62 percent over the previous year.

According to state analysis, Lagos had the most active voice customers in Q1 of 2022, with 24,226,878, followed by Kano and Ogun, each with 11,666,630.

The study also revealed that Ekiti had the most (1,786,160), followed by Bayelsa (1,445,123) while Lagos state led all states with 17,839,569 active internet subscriptions, followed by Ogun with 8,538,812 and Kano with 8,364,587.

“On the other hand, Bayelsa had the least with 1,043,059, followed by Ebonyi and Ekiti with 1,230,081 and 1,373,888 respectively.”

With the report showing that MTN had the highest share of subscriptions in Q1 of 2022, followed by Glo and Airtel.
