ASISAT Oshoala and three of her teammates have been included in a list of 30 nominees for the 2022 CAF Women’s Player of the Year award.

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana however have the most nominees with six.

The nomination list was released today by the Confederation of African Football, with the award ceremony billed for Morocco on July 21, two days before the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in the North African country.

Barcelona striker Oshoala, who won the award the last time it was given out in 2019, is joined by her Nigerian international teammates Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and forward Uchenna Kanu.

All for Super Falcons stars are currently in Morocco with the team as they chase their 10th WAFCON title.

Banyana Banyana forward Thembi Kgatlana, who won the award in 2018, is one of six South Africans among the 30 nominees.

The other South African nominees are Jermaine Seoposenwe, who scored in the 2-1 win over Nigeria on Monday, Refiloe Jane, Linda Motlhalo, Andile Dlamini and Bambanani Mbane.

Cameroon, like Nigeria, also have four nominees, including Ajara Nchout Njoya and Gabrielle Ongouene, while Ghana and Morocco have three players each on the list.

There are also players from Botswana, Tunisia and Gabon among the list of nominees.

Super Falcons forward Gift Monday, who was the Most Valuable Player and top scorer as she steered Bayelsa Queens to the Nigeria Women’s Football League title in May, is the only Nigerian on the 10-woman shortlist for Women’s Young Player of the Year award.

She is up against two Ghanaians, Evelyn Badu and Doris Boaduwaa, among others.

River Angels, who represented Nigeria at the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League last year, are among the nominees for Club of the Year honours, vying with Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Sekondi Hasaacas of Ghana, AS FAR of Morocco, Malabo Kings of Equatorial Guinea, Wadi Degla of Egypt and AS Mande of Mali.

The nomination lists were drawn up by the CAF Technical Study Group while the winners will be voted for by national team head coaches and captains, African legends and journalists.
