Manchester United have confirmed the acquisition of Christian Eriksen as their second signing of the transfer window, just as Barcelona presented Raphinha to their fans today.

Eriksen, 30, has joined Manchester United on a free transfer after ending his short stint at Brentford last season. He follows Tyrell Malacia to Old Trafford, one week after the Dutchman arrived from Feyenoord for around €15 million.

“Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Christian Eriksen has joined the club, signing a contract until June 2025,” the English club announced today.

“The midfielder has been capped 115 times for Denmark, scoring 38 goals for his country. Eriksen has played 237 games in the Premier League, registering 52 goals and 71 assists.”

Eriksen, who drew worldwide attention last year when he collapsed on the pitch while playing for Denmark at the European Championship, said he was eager to play for the Red Devils.

“Manchester United is a special club, and I cannot wait to get started. I have had the privilege of playing at Old Trafford many times but to do it in the red shirt of United will be an amazing feeling,” the midfielder said.

“I have seen Erik’s work at Ajax and know the level of detail and preparation that he and his staff put into every day. It is clear that he is a fantastic coach.

“Having spoken with him and learned more about his vision and the way he wants the team to play, I am even more excited for the future. I still have major ambitions in the game, there is a huge amount that I know I can achieve, and this is the perfect place to continue my journey.”

Around the same time United were announcing the Eriksen deal, Barcelona were officially unveiling Raphinha, who agreed to join the Spanish giants from Leeds United in a £55m deal earlier this week.

“It’s a dream come true since I was a kid, and of my family as well. I’m going to give my best,” the Brazil forward said during his first press conference as a Barcelona player today.

“I started watching Barça when Ronaldinho came here. Everything that he achieved here definitely influenced my decision to come. I always wanted to come here.”
