Asisat Oshoala and Sadio Mane were the biggest winners tonight at the 2022 CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.
The Super Falcons of Nigeria striker won the Women’s Player of the Year prize, while Senegal forward Mane claimed the Men’s Player of the Year gong.
It is Barcelona star Oshoala’s fifth award, making her the most honoured women’s player in the history of the awards, while it is Bayern Munich star Mane’s second consecutive prize.
Oshoala, who is currently injured and limped in leg braces to receive her award, was the top scorer for Barcelona last season as they won the Spanish top flight title and reached the UEFA Women’s Champions League final.
On his part, Mane inspired the Teranga Lions to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon in February and won the FA Cup and EFL Cup double with Liverpool before leaving for Bayern Munich this summer.
Senegal head coach Aliou Cisse won the Men’s Coach of the Year prize, while South Africa’s Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis claimed the Women’s Coach of the Year award.
Other winners on the night include Ghana’s Evelyn Badu who claimed both the Women’s Young Player of the Year and the Women’s Inter-Club Player of the Year awards; Men’s Young Player of the Year winner Pape Matar Sarr of Senegal, and Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies, who were named Women’s Club of the Year.
Senegal’s Teranga Lions were named the Men’s National Team of the Year, as CAF Champions League winners Wydad Athletic of Morocco won the Men’s Club of the Year prize.
