THE Congress of National Open University of Nigeria Students (CoNS), the umbrella structure for students’ Union at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has elected Ms Rukayat Abolore Busari, a 400 Level student of the Biology department, Ilorin Study Center as its President.
She defeated other contestants including Abdulyekeen Uthman of Abeokuta Study Centre to emerged the first female president of the student body at the 4th Convention held in Bayelsa state.
The Convention was witnessed by the CoNS Stakeholders across the federation, delegates of the Bayelsa Government, NANS, and students of NOUN.
The NOUN is an open and distance learning (ODL) institution established in July 1983 by the late former President, Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari.
With 103 Study Centres spread across the geopolitical zones of Nigeria, the ODL institution was envisioned with the capacity to admit and satisfy the education and skill needs of Nigerians no matter their status or circumstances.
After a 19-year suspension of operations, former President Olusegun Obasanjo resuscitated the University in 2002.

“Our 103 Study Centres spread across the geopolitical zones of Nigeria are equipped with requisite physical infrastructure, human and material resources with top-notch ICT competencies for learning, in compliance with the best global standards of education in all our accredited programmes.”
