Carlo Ancelotti has given confirmation to reports linking Casemiro with a move to Manchester United.
There were various reports last night claiming the Brazil midfielder was close to leaving Real Madrid for the Red Devils as United needed to bolster their squad after a torrid start to the season.
The deal is expected to be worth around £50 million in transfer fee and £10m in add-ons.
Real Madrid manager Ancelotti told journalists in Spain today that the 30-year-old has said his goodbyes to the UEFA Champions League holders.
“I have spoken with Casemiro. He wants to try a new challenge,” Ancelotti, who is in his second spell at Real Madrid, said.
“We respect Casemiro and his decision. He wants to leave. We didn’t try to convince him to stay. I listened to his desire. I respect him.
“Negotiations are ongoing for Casemiro. He won’t play tomorrow (against Celta Vigo).”
Casemiro joined Real Madrid from hometown club Sao Paulo in 2013 and has played 336 times for the Spanish giants, scoring 31 goals and making 29 assists.
He has won La Liga thrice and the Champions League title five times with Real Madrid.
Casemiro, who will be expected to help solve United’s chronic defensive midfield problem, signed a new contract at Real Madrid in 2021 that will expire in 2025.
Ancelotti added that Real have filled Casemiro’s spot.
“Replacement? We have signed Tchouaméni and he’s one of the best on the market. Then we have Kroos and Camavinga.”
