Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has been charged by the Football Association for his comments about referee Anthony Taylor following his side’s 2-2 Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, August 14.

Tuchel felt aggrieved by some of Taylor’s decisions during the match, including allowing Tottenham’s first goal despite suspicions of an offside Richarlison blocking Edouard Mendy’s view and not taking any action against Christian Romero for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair just before Harry Kane’s added-time equaliser.

The German suggested Taylor should not referee Chelsea matches in future.

Tuchel had previously been handed a one-match touchline ban and a £35,000 fine for his scuffle with Spurs manager Antonio Conte at the end of the game.

The 48-year-old Tuchel has until Thursday to respond to the charge.

A statement by the FA today said Tuchel’s comments “questioned the integrity of the match referee”.

“It is alleged that the manager’s comments in his post-match press conference constitute improper conduct as contrary to FA Rule E3.1,” the statement read.

“The imply bias and/or question the integrity of the match referee and/or bring the game into disrepute.”

After the game, video assistant referee Mike Dean admitted an error in not asking Taylor to check his pitchside monitor after the Romero, Cucurella incident.

Tuchel was allowed to be at the sidelines for his side’s 3-0 defeat by Leeds at Elland Road yesterday after his ban was suspended temporarily, pending the full written reasons for the decision.
