The Chairperson of the Nigeria Women’s Football League, Aisha Falode, has formally declared her intention to run for a position in the Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation.
The elections into the NFF board are scheduled for September 30 in Benin City, Edo State.
Falode, who is an ace sports broadcaster and football administrator with decades of experience at the top level, is the only appointed female member of the present Executive Committee of the NFF.
She explained that she is seeking a position as an elected member of the NFF’s highest decision-making committee as a result of her desire to continue her already successful role in raising the level of Nigeria’s top women’s football league and the national teams.
“I want to be a real stakeholder in the Nigeria Football Federation, with a real stake and not limited by the status of an appointee,” Falode said at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Lagos during her formal declaration at the weekend.
“For me, I want to be fully involved in the decision making and implementation of developmental programmes in Nigerian football.”
Falode has revolutionised the women’s football league during her five years as NWFL boss by ensuring that the Nigeria Women’s Premier League is regularly and efficiently organised, as well as by attracting sponsorship and turning the play-offs into a proper spectacle that rivals any women’s competition in Africa and beyond.
She believes that an elected position in the Executive Committee will expand her scope and enable her to have a bigger impact on not just women’s football but the game generally, from bottom up.
