GOVERNOR Babajide Sanwo-Olu has approved the appointment of Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins as Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development.

He replaces Idris Salako who resigned yesterday.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, announced that the governor approved the appointment of Bamgbose-Martins at a press briefing.

Bamgbose-Martins was Commissioner for Special Duties and intergovernmental relations before his new appointment.

Meanwhile, State Parking Authority (LASPA) has said that it is not the local councils that have the rights to issue parking permits across Lagos, as it has been agreed that the councils should cede that authority to the agency.

General Manager of the agency, Adebisi Adelabu, who disclosed that to prevent double payment and harassment of residents and businesses, her agency is continually talking to councils’ officials against demanding from, or issuing parking permits to businesses and individuals, as that authority has been handed over to her agency.

Adelabu said this, yesterday, at a briefing on the controversy surrounding the issuing of parking permits in the state.

Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Transportation, Frederic Oladeinde, said LASPA was an agency set up to solve a peculiar  problem which has to do with parking and  impediments that normally leads to congestion on roads in the state.

Oladeinde said the structure was put in place to  regulate activities of private parking lots, improve and enhance parking culture; stressing that it is not a revenue generation agency.

He implored members of the public to visit the  agency’s office  for necessary information while urging them to support the government to stop indiscriminate parking in the state.

Information Commissioner, Omotoso said the briefing was to clear the air on issues and educate the public on the mandate and functions of the agency.

Adelabu, urged people running private parking lots to get their permits saying the objective of the agency was to create employment and ensure vehicles parked on the roads and setbacks were  identifiable, as the best practice globally.
