The Premier League will be back this weekend after a week off due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The 96-year-old Queen of England died on Thursday and all fixtures in the Premier League and the English Football League were cancelled as a mark of respect to the monarch, who reigned for 70 years.
“Premier League fixtures will resume this weekend after a pause to the season as a mark of respect following the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” the league said in a statement today on their official website.
However, not all the games will be played, as fixtures involving Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leeds United have been moved over policing issues ahead of the Queen’s funeral next Monday.
“Seven of the 10 Premier League fixtures this weekend will be played, with three matches postponed due to events surrounding The Queen’s funeral,” the statement added.
“In addition, kick-off times will change for two Premier League matches.
“Matches postponed on Sunday 18 September are Chelsea’s match against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, and Manchester United’s home match v Leeds United.
“Brighton & Hove Albion’s fixture against Crystal Palace, that was due to be played at 15:00 BST on Saturday 17 September, will also remain postponed.”
With the altered schedule, Aston Villa will host Southampton and Nottingham Forest will welcome Fulham, both on Friday night.
On Saturday, the early kick-off is between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City, while Newcastle will welcome Bournemouth in the afternoon. The evening game will see Tottenham Hotspur host Crystal Palace.
There will be two games on Sunday, with leaders Arsenal playing host to Brentford, and Everton welcoming West Ham United.
