Super Eagles defender Shehu Abdullahi has explained what made him sign for Bulgarian club Levski Sofia after leaving Omonia Nicosia of Cyprus as a free agent in July.
The versatile Nigeria international completed the move last night and signed a one-year deal with the most successful club in Bulgarian history with 26 domestic titles.
In his first interview with his new club, Shehu said he was attracted by Levski Sofia’s rich pedigree and the love shown to him by the club’s fans.
“I am very glad to be here. Before I came to Sofia, I received messages from Levski fans and I already feel that I am at home,” the 29-year-old told the club’s official website.
“The club took very good care of me. I came to show my best, help the team and achieve the goals this season.
“I have heard about Levski before, but when the coach and the club contacted me, I researched it and found out that Levski is one of the biggest teams in Bulgaria.
“I chose to come here because of the history of this club, because of its goals and ambitions. As a player who wants to maintain a high level, you cannot refuse Levski.”
Shehu, who has either played at right-back or in central midfield for the Super Eagles in his 41 appearances for the three-time African champions, says he can even play an additional position for Levski.
“I hope that with my arrival I will bring success to the club,” he adds.
“I play three positions – central midfielder, central defender and right back, but it all depends on the coach, I am ready to play all of them.
“The coach will decide where to play and I am ready to play anywhere.”
Since leaving Kano Pillars in 2014, Shehu has played for several clubs across Europe and the Middle East, including Al Qadisiya in Kuwait, Uniao Madeira in Portugal, Anorthosis in Cyprus and Bursaspor in Turkey.
