Wilfred Ndidi is the latest player to withdraw from the Super Eagles squad ahead of their friendly against Algeria.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to face Algeria’s main team in an official friendly in Oran on Tuesday. Before that, they will play Algeria’s home-based national team in a ‘training game’ on Saturday.

Leicester City midfielder Ndidi was in the Super Eagles’ Constantine camp but has now left.

“Just in: Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is injured and out of the game against Algeria,” the team’s media announced on Twitter today.

“He has left the team’s camp and returned to England. Get well soon Wilfred.”

Ndidi has battled with fitness problems in recent months, missing a chunk of last season for Leicester City and the Africa Cup of Nations in January for Nigeria with a long-term injury.

He recovered in time to play all seven of Leicester City’s Premier League fixtures this season before this latest setback.

The nature of his injury has not been revealed and Leicester City will hope he will be back fit for their next match, a home game against Nottingham Forest on October 3.

Ndidi has joined Ahmed Musa, Leon Balogun, Victor Osimhen, Emmanuel Dennis and Henry Onyekuru in withdrawing from the Algeria friendly through injury.
