THE State Government said that it has directed the prompt investigation of the cause of the building collapse on 2/4 Oye Sonuga Street, Palm Avenue, Mushin.
Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Omotayo Bamgbose-Martins, made this known during a visit to the site of the building collapse.
He added that moves are on to determine the cause of the building collapse.
He added that preliminary investigations show that the collapse which occurred at midda, was as a result of partial collapse of an old four-floor building.
He directed that the adjoining building be pulled down for safety reasons to avert further danger.
Regretting the occurrence of another building collapse barely a week after a building collapsed in the state, Bamgbose-Martins said that effort is on to rescue those that might be trapped in the rubbles.
He explained that the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) and the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory (LASMTL) had been directed to swing into action to unravel the cause of the collapse while the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) had since commenced rescue operations.
The Commissioner commiserated with the residents / occupants and neighbours of the ill-fated building, assuring of government’s commitment to forestall similar incidents in the future.
