Taiwo Awoniyi has said that his mission on Tuesday night is to add to his Super Eagles goals tally.

The Super Eagles will face Algeria in an official friendly in Oran on Tuesday night, four days after the 2-2 draw in an unofficial test match against the North African country’s home-based team.

Awoniyi has scored once in four appearances for Nigeria’s senior team and he is eyeing another goal against the 2019 African champions.

“Of course I want to score (against Algeria),” Awoniyi said in a video posted by the Nigeria Football Federation media team today.

“I think it will be a good game for both countries. Algeria is a country with a lot of good players as well.

“As a team, it’s a game that will help us know each other more and to keep us going ahead of the next challenge.”

The Nottingham Forest striker was in the starting line-up in last night’s draw against Algeria’s home-based team in which Alex Iwobi and Cyriel Dessers scored for the Super Eagles, and he saw it as a useful exercise.

“It was a good game, unfortunately we did not win,” he added.

“But it was a game that helped us to get going, to get to know each other, to understand each other’s way of playing.

“Like I always say, each striker wants to score but it’s also your role to bring others into play and in position to score too.”
