Italy overtook Hungary tonight to take tol spot in Group 3 and secure a place in the finals of the UEFA Nations League.
The Azzurri won 2-0 in Budapest through goals from Giacomo Raspadori and Federico Dimarco to take pole position in League A Group 3 with 11 points, one above Hungary.
Italy join The Netherlands and Croatia in the finals, with the fourth spot to be determined tomorrow when Spain visit Portugal in a battle of Group 2’s top teams.
The highlight of tonight’s Nations League fixtures was at Wembley where England and Germany fought to a thrilling 3-3 draw.
There was little at stake as England were already relegated and Germany out of the running for the finals, but the two teams went at it like a cup final.
After an even first half in which both sides had chances but couldn’t find the breakthrough, the game exploded into life in the second period.
All six goals were scored after the break and all were scored by players from the Premier League.
Germany took the lead seven minutes into the second half through Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, who netted from the penalty spot after Manchester United defender Harry Maguire fouled Jamal Musiala in the box.
The visitors extended their lead 15 minutes later with Chelsea forward Kai Havertz’s spectacular strike and it looked like England were in for their fourth defeat of a dismal campaign.
But the Three Lions fought back and cut the deficit through Manchester United defender Luke Shaw in the 72nd minute, which was England’s first goal from open play in 522 minutes.
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount then drew England level three minutes later after good work from fellow substitute Bukayo Saka.
England captain and Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane then gave the hosts an unlikely lead from the penalty spot to cap off an 11-minute spell of three goals for his side.
Kane has now scored in all four of his England games against Germany, and it is the joint most appearances one player has made against a specific opponent for the Three Lions while scoring in every game, according to Opta statistics.
Germany were not done however, as Havertz tapped in from close range after goalkeeper Nick Pope spilled Serge Gnabry’s shot with seven minutes of regulation time left.
In other Nations League fixtures tonight, Montenegro lost 2-0 at home to Finland, Romania eased past Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1, Bulgaria edged out North Macedonia 1-0 and Gibraltar lost 2-1 at home to Georgia in the lower divisions.
