TODAY, President Buhari declared that Nigeria would use technology to exploit the key minerals that litter its seabed.

A statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, stated that Buhari delivered a speech while entertaining the Secretary-General of the International Seabed Authority, Michael Lodge at the State House in Abuja.

Lodge paid a visit to Buhari this evening while he was in Abuja for a workshop on Africa’s Deep resources.

In a statement titled ‘Using technology, we’ll tap our seabed resources’, President Buhari maintained that investing in technology and sponsoring studies would be profitable given the massive underwater resources Nigeria has at its disposal.

In addition, Buhari applauded the Nigerian Navy for its contribution of safeguarding the nation’s maritime borders and urged it to “continue to watch us zealously.”

For his part, Lodge praised Nigeria for its leadership in Africa and expressed gratitude to the nation for hosting the international workshop.

In his capacity as Secretary-General, he pledged to stand with Nigeria and urged it to exploit its deep seabed resources so as to be able “to support the blue economy.”
