The Olympic Eagles will head to Tanzania on Wednesday for the first leg of their U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying tie against the East Africans, according to the Nigeria Football Federation.

The first leg of the tie is billed for Dar-es-Salaam next weekend, with the return fixture to be played in Ibadan.

The Nigeria U-23s have continued their build-up in Ibadan ahead of the tie as they seek to reach the continental competition, which also serves as the qualifying tournament for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France.

The players in the Ibadan camp yesterday stepped up their training under the guidance of the technical crew led by head coach Salisu Yusuf, with Kennedy Boboye, Abubakar Bala and goalkeeper trainer Suleiman Shuaibu assisting.

The Nigeria U-23s are the most successful African team at the Olympics, winning the continent’s first gold in the men’s football event in Atlanta, United States of America in 1996.

They also won silver at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 and bronze in Brazil six years ago.

The return leg against Tanzania is scheduled for October 29 at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.

It is the first time since 1994 that the stadium in the Oyo State capital is hosting a national team match, 28 years after the Super Eagles played Georgia in a friendly there.
