IN the early hours of Saturday, chaos ensued as gunmen opened fire on the busy East West Road in Rivers State’s Emouha axis.

As heavily armed militants grabbed control of the busy road, commuters fled for safety.

Numerous commuters were observed running erratically as they traveled from the Emouha Local Government secretariat to Elibrada via Oduoha, while many cars were parked along the roadside.

According to eyewitnesses reports heavy gunfire that continued for more than an hour, drove some commuters to choose an alternate route while others lingered.

Although the State Police Command’s public relations officer, SP Grace Iringe Koko, was unavailable for comment, sources close to the Command stated that troops from the tactical unit had been sent to repel the attacks.

In recent years there have been an increase in kidnapping and other criminal activity along the Emouha Kalabari axis of East West Road.
