Colombia prevented an all-African semi-final at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup by beating Tanzania 3-0 in their quarter-final clash at the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa, India today.

With the victory, Colombia earned a ticket to the semi-finals, in which they will face Nigeria’s Flamingos on Wednesday in Goa.

The South Americans dominated their African opponents, winning with goals from Linda Caicedo, Yesica Munoz and Gabriela Rodriguez.

Caicedo opened the scoring early, netting after just three minutes, and Munoz made it 2-0 in the 17th minute.

The task of advancing to the semi-finals was made easier for Colombia when Tanzania’s Zainabu Ally was sent off in the 23rd minute.

Colombia took advantage of the dismissal to make it 3-0 through Rodriguez in the 36th minute.

Tanzania kept the scoreline respectable by not conceding more goals in the second half, but they are heading home while their fellow Africans will battle Colombia in the last four stage.

The Flamingos earned their first-ever semi-final slot in the competition yesterday when they defeated the United States of America 4-3 on penalties after full-time ended 1-1 in Navi Mumbai.
