SENIOR staff members in Nigerian universities yesterday demanded payment of their withheld four-month salary from the federal government.

The union, which operates under the auspices of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), said that its members had endured extreme hardship as a result of the payment delay.

The association voiced its displeasure over the appalling situation of the nation’s state universities at its National Executive Council meeting (NEC) in Abuja.

SSANU President, Mohammed Ibrahim, who read the communiqué, urged stakeholders in the country to prevail on Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki to release salaries of his members at Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma.

“NEC similarly urges the Federal Government to expedite the process of upholding its part of the terms of the agreement on which the strike action was suspended.”
