The Super Eagles began their preparation for Thursday’s high-profile friendly match against Portugal last night.

The friendly, which will be Portugal’s last match before the Qatar 2022 World Cup, will be held in Lisbon on Thursday night.

The Super Eagles held their first training session ahead of the match last night in Lisbon with 19 players taking part and another arriving just after the session.

Among the players who trained under the guidance of Jose Peseiro were goalkeeper Adebayo Adeleye, defenders William Troost-Ekong, Calvin Bassey and Tyronne Ebuehi, as well as midfielders Joe Aribo, Frank Onyeka and Wilfred Ndidi.

Also at the session last night were Kevin Akpoguma, Paul Onuachu, Emmanuel Dennis, new invitees Bruno Onyemaechi and Bright Osayi-Samuel, as well as Terem Moffi, Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Chidozie Awaziem, who was called up as replacement for injured Olisa Ndah.

Watford goalkeeper Maduka Okoye joined the team last night after the training session.

Francis Uzoho, Samuel Chukwueze and Cyriel Dessers, who replaced the injured Victor Osimhen in the squad, were still being expected this morning.

Portugal will likely field their strongest line-up in the friendly, with Cristiano Ronaldo, Bernardo Silva, Bruno Fernandes and Rafael Leao all expected to be involved.

Portugal will face Nigeria hoping to learn about Ghana, who are in Group H with the 2016 European champions along with Uruguay and South Korea.

The Black Stars eliminated the Super Eagles from the World Cup race in the African playoffs on the away goals rule.

The Qatar 2022 World Cup kicks off on Sunday and ends on December 18.
