Ghana’s Andre Ayew reportedly rushed from the team’s 2-0 defeat to Uruguay at the Qatar 2022 World Cup yesterday to the hospital after hearing that his seven-year-old daughter had collapsed.

The Black Stars captain failed to score the penalty that would have put his side ahead, and his young daughter lost consciousness in the aftermath, according to HLN.

Both Andre and his younger brother Jordan Ayew were substituted at half-time as Ghana sought to come from 2-0 down to earn the victory that would have put them in the round of 16.

Ayew, 31, was told of his daughter’s condition, and he rushed to the hospital from the stadium to see her. Fortunately, she was fine.

“Andre Ayew went from the stadium straight to the hospital to see his daughter who collapsed when he missed the penalty against Uruguay. It was quite scary but thankfully, she’s doing fine now,” a tweet reads, with a picture from the hospital attached.

Before news emerged of the incident, the Ayew brothers were heavily criticised on social media by Ghanaians yesterday, most of them calling on the sons of the legendary Abedi Pele to never play for the Black Stars again.

With revenge for the 2010 defeat and a spot in the knockout rounds on the line, Ghana put up a poor display and Ayew’s early penalty miss was followed by two goals from Uruguay’s Giorgian de Arrascaeta.

Ghana and Uruguay were both eliminated as South Korea’s shock 2-1 over Portugal placed the Asians ahead of the South Americans on goals scored.
