THE Department of State Service (DSS) issued a warning yesterday to players in the socioeconomic sector against manipulative tendencies that could lead to inflated price increases, fictitious product shortages, and situations that could increase tension in the nation.

In a statement yesterday, DSS spokesperson Peter Afunanya also warned politicians against using fake news, hate speech, violence, and other actions that could endanger national security.

He asked community, religious, and political leaders to promote harmony, tolerance, and peace among their followers and to educate them on safety precautions for the holiday season and beyond.

He noted that it is essential because criminal elements might try to take advantage of the festivities to wreck havoc or harm unsuspecting members of the public.

Afunanya urged the media and non-governmental organizations to do their duties with objectivity and patriotism.

“For emphasis, everyone is encouraged to live in peace and good neighbourliness, but should, however, be conscious of his/her environment.

“People should desist from false and deliberate narratives and actions that may incite the populace against themselves or the government,” he said.

He denied claims that the DSS ran detention facilities outside the law in various regions of the nation and insisted that all of its activities were legitimate.

Additionally, he stated that the DSS did not make unlawful arrests or compel the disappearance of innocent Nigerians, stressing that there are operational guidelines for personnel.
