SAMUEL Chukwueze posted an outstanding performance today, playing a key role in Villarreal’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.
The Super Eagles forward was in full-time action and was involved in the move that led to Villarreal’s first goal in the win over the visiting champions.
Yeremi Pino and Gerard Moreno netted for Villarreal, with Karim Benzema scoring Real Madrid’s goal in the closely fought contest in which both sides scored from the penalty spot.
Chukwueze, making his sixth consecutive start in La Liga, was a menace against the Real Madrid defence from his wide right position, and he nearly scored in the second half.
The win lifted Villarreal to fifth place in the table while Real Madrid stayed second, level on points with leaders Barcelona, who have a game in hand.
In England, Semi Ajayi made his return to the West Brom starting line-up as they played a 3-3 draw at Chesterfield in an FA Cup third round encounter today.
The Nigeria centre-back had been out with a knee ligament injury for four months, with his last start coming in a 2-2 draw at Huddersfield on August 27.
He played the last two minutes of West Brom’s 1-0 Championship win over Reading on Monday but today was his first full game since recovering from the long-term injury.
