EVERTON manager Frank Lampard is hoping Alex Iwobi will not be ruled out for too long after the Super Eagles midfielder sustained an injury last night.
Iwobi was stretchered off after a challenge from Tyler Malacia hurt his right ankle early in the second half of Everton’s 3-1 FA Cup defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The Nigeria international was leading an Everton breakaway when Malacia caught up with him and got the ball but the follow through left Iwobi’s ankle twisted in an awkward angle.
Iwobi was unable to continue and had to be replaced by Abdoulaye Doucoure seven minutes into the second half.
Speaking at Old Trafford after the contest, Lampard told evertontv: “We hope it’s not too serious.
“It is an ankle ligament injury, we hope it’s a lesser one. He will have a scan tomorrow (today) to confirm.”
Iwobi will be a big miss for Lampard’s side having started 20 of Everton’s 21 matches across all competitions this season, contributing one goal and six assists from central midfield.
