ALEX Iwobi will be out of action for around three weeks due to an ankle injury.

The Nigeria international sustained the injury during Everton’s FA Cup third round defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Friday night.

Iwobi was stretchered off five minutes into the second half after a tackle from Tyler Malacia and it was feared it would be a long-term injury, but Everton issued an optimistic update today.

“Alex Iwobi is expected to be out for around three weeks with the ankle ligament injury sustained against Manchester United on Friday,” Everton stated on their official website today.

“The Everton midfielder was taken off on a stretcher early in the second half of the FA Cup tie at Old Trafford.

“Scan results on Saturday confirmed a lateral ligament injury that will be managed conservatively by the Club’s medical team at Finch Farm.”

Iwobi himself tweeted about his injury yesterday with an upbeat outlook, writing: “Appreciate the love, back soon.”

The Super Eagles midfielder has been Everton’s best player this season, starting 20 of their 21 matches across all competitions and contributing one goal and six assists from central midfield.

He will miss the Premier League fixtures against Southampton, West Ham and his former club Arsenal.
