Arsenal ease past Tottenham to extend EPL lead

ARSENAL produced a dominant first-half performance today to defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

With the victory, the Gunners extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to eight points over second-placed Manchester City.

Hugo Lloris scored an own goal and Martin Odegaard struck a superb effort as Arsenal took full advantage of Manchester City’s loss at Manchester United yesterday to take a step closer to their first Premier League title in 19 years.

Following a stylish display in the first half, Arsenal showed some steel after the break to fend off Spurs and earn the three crucial points.

The opening goal came in the 14th minute as Spurs goalkeeper Lloris fumbled Bukayo Saka’s cross into his own net.

There was no luck required for the second goal, which came in the 36th minute when Arsenal captain Odegaard drilled in a low, hard shot past Lloris from distance.

After an embarrassingly limp first half, the hosts were much brighter after the break, giving the Arsenal defence some problems.

An energetic Spurs side created some chances but found Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in top form as he made brilliant saves from Harry Kane and Ryan Sessegnon.

While Arsenal are steadily marching towards the title, Tottenham are slipping in the race for a top four finish.

Antonio Conte’s side are fifth, five points behind fourth-placed Manchester United, who have played one game fewer.
