MORE than 500,000 tickets have been bought by fans eager to see action at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, FIFA has said.

The tournament is scheduled for July 20 to August 20 in the two countries.

“FIFA is delighted to announce that over half-a-million tickets have been sold to fans from more than 120 countries for the ninth edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup, taking place this July and August in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand,” the world football governing body announced on their website today.

According to FIFA, the ticket sales passed that mark last week, with the best selling match the final scheduled for Stadium Australia in Sydney on August 20.

The opening match and opening ceremony for the first-ever co-hosted women’s tournament will take place on July 20 at New Zealand’s Eden Park in Auckland.

The tournament is featuring 32 teams for the first time, with Morocco, Zambia, Phillipines, Vietnam and Republic of Ireland set to make their debuts.

Speaking about the excitement building ahead of the competition FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura said: “Ticket sales for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 are off to a great start and it’s not just home fans in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand purchasing tickets!

“Fans residing in the United States of America, England, Qatar, Germany, China PR, Canada, the Republic of Ireland and France are the top 10 purchasers of FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 tickets so far.

“This highlights the fantastic pull of the female game and the passion it evokes among the global football fandom, who want to be part of the FIFA Women’s World Cup and see the event reach #BeyondGreatness.”

Ticket prices are on sale via the FIFA website, with those for adults starting at $20 and $10 for children.

The Super Falcons of Nigeria are among the 32 teams set to play at the tournament.
