NIGERIA Football Federation president Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau has extended the tenure of the Interim Management Committee of the Nigeria Premier Football League until the end of the 2022/2023 season.

The IMC was initially formed last year to temporarily replace the disbanded League Management Company and engineer a smooth take-off of the new season.

Gusau said he decided to extend the IMC’s tenure in order to allow the team to concentrate fully on the organisation and management of the ongoing NPFL season, which is heading to its third matchday this weekend.

The NFF president had inaugurated the Interim Management Committee of the NPFL, headed by Gbenga Elegbeleye, on October 21, 2022 with an initial mandate of three months.

At the draw ceremony for the new season on December 28, Gusau had commended the IMC for the good work it had been doing since inauguration and assured it of NFF’s support in turning around Nigeria’s domestic league for the better, including fostering a viable football economy.

Due to a five-month delay after last season, the IMC opted for an abridged format for the 2022/2023 NPFL campaign.

The 20 clubs are split into two groups of 10 each, with the shortened campaign to end in May.
