PROGRAMMES for the burial of the president-general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Amb. George Obiozor, have been announced by the organization’s National Executive Council.

According to Ohanaeze Secretary General Okey Emuchay, who made the announcement shortly after an emergency meeting of the NEC at the organization’s national secretariat in Enugu, the late Obiozor will be laid to rest at his hometown of Awo-Omamma, Imo state, on Friday, February 10, 2023,

Emuchay said there will be activities prior to the burial of the late president-general, including a valedictory session at the national secretariat and other activities at the National Institute of International Affairs, Victoria Island, Lagos and Abuja.

The former Ohanaeze President-General, Gary Enwo-Igariwey, will serve as the burial committee’s chairman, and I.C. Ihemedu, the PG of Ohanaeze’s Imo state, will serve as its secretary. He also stated that the burial committee will be made up of all NEC members and other stakeholders from all seven Ohanaeze states.

Emuchay added that the funeral for Ohanaeze’s late deputy president general, Joel Kroham, who passed away in August, would take place on February 4 in Rivers State in 2023 adding that this was the first time the organization had lost both its president general and deputy at nearly the same time.

He said, “A central planning committee will come up together with sub-committees. The chairman and the secretary will handle that.

“The NEC however wants to assure that the ship of Ohanaeze is in safe hands.

“We shall pass through this very difficult period and everything will be done to ensure that the late Obiozor, his deputy and Mbazuilke Amaechi who also died on November 1, 2022, are accorded the dignity and honour that they deserve.”

The NEC issued a plea to all Ohanaeze members, both in Nigeria and abroad, to set aside time to open condolence registers and give people a chance to say farewell to Obiozor.

Obiozor was chosen to serve as the 10th President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, on January 9, 2021, he however passed away in December 2022 at the age of 80.
