HARRY Kane scored the only goal of the game tonight to inspire Tottenham Hotspur to a 1-0 Premier League win over Manchester City.

In the process, the England striker became Tottenham’s all-time record scorer with 267 goals for the club, surpassing the legendary Jimmy Greaves.

Kane made history with a close-range finish after Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg fed him following an error from the City defence as they tried to pass the ball out from the back.

The fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium rose in unison to salute the 29-year-old striker, whose first goal for the club came on December 15, 2011, while a message flashed up on the scoreboard inside the ground which read ‘Congratulations Harry Kane’.

Kane is also closing in on the Premier League goals record as tonight’s strike is his 200th in the competition — only Alan Shearer (260 goals) and Wayne Rooney (208) have scored more.

The 15th minute strike came against the run of play and with Tottenham manager Antonio Conte recovering at home after surgery to remove his gallbladder.

Spurs, who finished with 10 men after defender Cristian Romero was sent off in the 87th minute for two bookings, held on to frustrate City, who fell further behind leaders Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola’s side missed the chance to cut Arsenal’s five-point lead at the top of the table following the Gunners’ defeat at Everton on Saturday.

City are now without a point — and a goal — in five visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Tottenham’s victory moved them to within one point of fourth-placed Newcastle United in the battle for UEFA Champions League spots.
