KINGSLEY Coman scored the only goal of the game tonight to give Bayern Munich a 1-0 advantage over Paris Saint-Germain in their UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg clash in Paris.
The Frenchman struck 12 minutes into the second half after a dominant display by Bayern in the first half in which the hosts mustered only one shot.
Substitute Kylian Mbappe thought he had hauled an underwhelming PSG side back level in the 82nd minute but his goal was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee for offside.
The dominant Bayern side ended the game with 10 men after Benjamin Pavard was sent off late on for a foul on Lionel Messi that earned him a second yellow card.
The result ended a run of 40 home games without defeat for PSG, which dated back to April 2021.
It is also PSG’s third consecutive defeat in all competitions, the first time they have endured such a sequence since 2011.
Also tonight in Milan, Brahim Diaz struck in the seventh minute goal to hand reigning Italian champions AC Milan a 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
Diaz nodded home after stand-in Spurs goalkeeper Fraser Forster had saved a Theo Hernandez shot and then superbly got a hand on the scorer’s initial follow-up attempt.
The second legs of both ties will come up in March, while the round of 16 first legs continue tomorrow night.
Borussia Dortmund host Chelsea tomorrow, with Ralph Onyedika’s Club Brugge welcoming Benfica.
