Super Falcons’ record losing streak continues with defeat to Colombia

THE Super Falcons suffered their second defeat in two games at the Revelation Cup in Mexico, losing 1-0 to Colombia tonight.

The nine-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions had lost their opening match by the same score to the hosts of the four-nation competition on Wednesday night.

Youngster Linda Caicedo netted the only goal of tonight’s encounter to extend the Super Falcons’ record losing streak to seven games.

The defeat to Mexico already made it the worst losing sequence in the history of Nigeria’s senior women’s national team before tonight’s loss made it worse.

Caicedo, the 17-year-old who played for the Colombia team that finished as runners-up at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup last year, struck in the eighth minute.

Tried as they did, Randy Waldrum’s Super Falcons could not find the equaliser, with the Colombians even forcing Nigeria goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie into saves.

The Super Falcons have been on the dismal run since July last year at the WAFCON, beginning with defeat to Morocco in the semi-finals.

They then shockingly lost the third-place match to Zambia and have faced defeats in two friendlies to the United States of America, another one to Japan, as well as the Revelation Cup losses to Mexico and Colombia.

The Super Falcons will hope to end the embarrassing streak on Tuesday when they face Costa Rica in their final fixture of the Revelation Cup.
