AN elderly woman was burned to death today when gunmen razed houses in Amagu Ihube community in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo state.
The country mansions of Imo State Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Emeka Okoronkwo, were among those destroyed.
The residence of Nnamdi Obiaraeri, a former Dean of the Law Faculty of Imo State University, Owerri, was also burned down. He served as Commissioner for information, youth and sports, and land and urban planning during the administrations of former governors Ikedi Ohakim and Rochas Okorocha.
Emeka Ngwu’s country home was also set ablaze.
According to our source, the elderly woman was at Ngwu’s house when she was engulfed in the blazing inferno.
The houses of two more prominent sons of the area’s were also burned down.
Okoronkwo confirmed the attack today on his home to reporters.
While ASP Henry Okoye, a police public relations officer, also verified the attack.
He stated that the police had initiated an investigation into the incident, but that no arrests had been made yet.
