THE All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Committee in Oyo State has denied having a standing arrangement with the state Governor, Seyi Makinde, as was widely assumed.
Nike Ajagbe, a member of the state committee, said in an interview with media in Ibadan today that the president-elect, Bola Tinubu, was a party man who would not joke with the success of the APC across the country, particularly in the South-West, which he considered his stronghold.
Ajagbe noted that it was in the campaign committee’s plan to visit all opposition governors anytime they were in their states to campaign, therefore hosting a generally accepted presidential contender should not be viewed as an endorsement but as a privilege.
She said, “It was in the programme of the campaign committee to visit all the opposition governors whenever they are in their respective states for campaign, so people should not see it as an agreement or they struck a deal. No standing agreement whatsoever between them.”
While citing Rivers and other states whose Government Houses Tinubu visited before embarking on campaign grounds, Ajagbe stated that she was part of the president-visit elect’s to Makinde and that no agreement was reached between the campaign team and Makinde.
“People are surprised to read that Governor Makinde was claiming he had an agreement with the president-elect when he was unable to disclose his support for the president-elect openly, especially when he remarked that people of the state should vote for unifier of the country during the governorship debate on Splash FM.” Ajagbe stressed.
