THE Amalgamated Market and Associated Traders Association traders in IMO state stormed Government House in Owerri today to protest a Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) directive in the state.
The NLC leadership had declared an indefinite strike in Imo State in response to the alleged brutalization of some of its members by security operatives and government officials.
Protesters carrying placards with various inscriptions blocked the entrance to Government House, pleading with Governor Hope Uzodimma to intervene and ensure the strike was called off since citizens’ and traders’ livelihoods and welfare were being jeopardized.
The traders stated that the state already had problems with cash, fuel, and power supply, and that any more burden on inhabitants would not be condoned.
However, in his address to the protesters, Deputy Governor Placid Njoku told them that the state administration will do everything necessary to bring the situation under control.
