THE Labour Party’s nominee for president in the February 25 election, Peter Obi, has expressed his sorrow over the passing of Humphrey Anumudu and former chief of staff of Nigeria, Lt. General Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd).
Obi, stated on his verified Twitter account today that the late Gen. Diya’s service to the people and the country in a variety of roles, will always be remembered.
My family and I convey our most profound condolences to the Diya family on the death of their patriarch, Lt- General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd) GCON. His service to the people and the nation, in different capacities, will always be remembered.

Diya was appointed as chief of staff of former military dictator, Sani Abacha, however, this morning, Prince Oyesinmilola Diya, his son, released a statement to confirm his passing.
Speaking on the passing of Anumudu, Obi stated that he was one of the Labour Party’s most ardent supporters in the Imo state, and he was also a very affable and straightforward individual.
He prayed that God, who had called him home at this time, would grant his family the strength to endure his irreplaceable loss and give him eternal rest in His kingdom.
Today, I paid a condolence visit to the family of a dear friend, and political colleague, Mr Humphrey Anumudu, whom I was deeply saddened by the news of his sudden death. Mr Anumudu is one of the strongest supporters of the Labour Party in Imo state.

Anumudu was discovered dead in his home in Lagos after leaving a meeting at the LP secretariat in Abuja.
