A high court in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, has prohibited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), embattled national chairman Iyorchia Ayu, from posing as the party’s leader until the outcome of the substantive suit, whose hearing has been postponed until April 17, 2023.
Terhide Utaan, a PDP member from Benue who is the plaintiff before Justice W. I. Kpochi, obtained the order prohibiting Ayu from parading the party’s national chairman.
After obtaining the court order, the plaintiff spoke to journalists in Makurdi and stated that it is wrong for Ayu to continue holding the position of national chairman and further split the party after being suspended by his Igyorov Ward Exco yesterday.
After the party lost the presidential election, Ayu was suspended late last week for anti-party activities.
However, the former lawmaker in a statement released today by his media assistant Simon Imobo-Tswam stated that only the ward lacked the authority to suspend him.
Today, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State and Ayu’s political rival in the PDP, declared his joy, toelated that Benue State ward exco passed a vote of no confidence in him.
“I am not from Benue State, but I am happy, and now that Benue State has done it, we would now come out and say we are in support of it,” he said.
