TEXTILE artist and art lecturer, Professor Peju Layiwola has launched her new clothing line, Danhiki Kembe, a trendy wear for both make and female dressing connoseuirs.
Launched formally at the British Council, Ikoyi Lagos, the line, made entirely from adiire and batik materials, stated the don, is for young and.old people who understand the language of fashion, and who appreciate the beauty of indigenous cultures.
The event, which the well-travelled professor of art at the University of Lagos, described as awesome held in the garden of the British Council on Thompson Avenue, Ikoyi.
“The models were phenomenal,” stated Professor Layiwola, a princess of the Benin palace, granddaughter of King Eweka.
She continued, “It was a whole day of celebrating art and culture. So much enthusiasm for learning art. Incredible how times have changed from the time art was looked down upon to now seeing this happen with so much vigour is so so satisfying.”
She continued, “The audience was massive! The food and drinks so good that I forgot about my dieting plan.
“I met my past students. Also met students of other universities whose professors were once my students. Ok, I met my students, past student and grand students not only from the University but many others who had trained under the platforms of the Women and Youth Art Foundation and Masterartclasses- both I founded in 1994 and 2020 respectively.
“There was so much fun, love, sharing and pleasantries exchanged that the 12 hours plus spent at the event went so fast.
“Thanks to TASCK for organising this event and the British Council for providing the grant for my project and the platform for attending this memorable event”.
