THE National Emergency Management Agency has stated that 104 stranded Nigerians from N’Djamena, Chad Republic, have arrived at Kano’s Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The Coordinator of the Agency’s Kano Territorial Office, Dr. Nuradeen Abdullahi, made this statement while welcoming the returnees today in Kano.
According to Abdullahi, who was speaking on behalf of Suleiman Sa’ad-Abubakar, Head of Human Resources, NEMA Kano, the returnees arrived at the airport around 2:15 p.m.
He added that the B737-500 aircraft operated by Ethiopian Airlines under the registration UR-CQX was used to fly the returnees to Nigeria.
The returnees, according to the coordinator, were from Kano, Katsina, Borno, Akwa Ibom, and Yobe and included 34 men, 18 women, and 52 children.
“The returnees were brought back under the care of the International Organisation for Migration from N’Djamena through a voluntary repatriation programme.
“The programme is for the distressed who had left the country to seek greener pastures in European countries and could not afford to return when their journey became frustrated,” he said.
He stated that in order to hasten their integration into society, the government will train the returnees through skill acquisition programs so they can pick up trades and become independent.
Abdullahi while urging the returnees to uphold the law advised Nigerians to avoid illegal immigration and traveling to other countries in search of greener pastures.
NEMA also revealed that between February and April 2023, the agency had received 444 stranded Nigerians from Niamey, Niger Republic.
